Sisters Forever

It was time to make the trek to Eugene to pick up the pork from the processor, and they decided to dress as twins.

They have a set of coordinating necklaces from Frozen (Elsa and Anna). It says "Sisters Forever," and when the pieces are put together they make a heart.

Got goat?

Recently Weensie the Goat was getting out of the pasture a lot, stepping through the electric fence to enjoy the long grass on the other side. One day, after retrieving her about 3 times, I gave up and let her spend the day outside the pasture. I knew she wouldn't go far, because her sister Teensie and MamaLlama won't go through the fence, and ultimately she doesn't want to go far from them. That night, as I was feeding the horses, I realized she really needed to go back in - it would have been dangerous to leave her out all night. Luckily Aleaha was able to help round her up and take her back. 

A friend brought some corn over that was a little past its prime for people. But it was perfect for goats!

The trees were really loaded this year. We spent as much time as we could gathering them.

Miri fills up Aleaha's makeshift collection bag.

Then they run to the 4-wheeler,

and in go the apples,

Great haul gathered in just a few minutes.

Gitchyer Ridin' In

We wanted to take advantage of the last of the dry days to get in some riding. I've been working with Miri on Shorty. Still need more practice....they both prefer to lead-line.

The girls and I wanted to take a ride on the trails, so Miri and I doubled up on Quigly while Aleaha rode Shorty. 

We took the hornbags so that we could gather apples at the trees.

It was a lovely ride.

Saying Goodbye to Nice Weather

Our dry weather and clear skies are ending. We won't see the moon like this again for many months.

We spent a little time trimming the berry vines back from the trail in the woods. (Halloween prep - more on that soon!) 

Miri was all about helping with the loppers.

Daddy has been catching gophers like crazy, and once we locked the animals out of the hillside pasture, we all chipped in to rake flat the mounds, so he could watch for new activity. (And it's paid off - he's caught 6 in about 10 days!

We scraped the barnyard on last time while things were dry, and then had gravel brought in.

Daddy smoothed it all out. Just in time...

Sigh....here comes the change....

Smokey and Bear

Smokey and Cinder are identical, until....

...he opens his mouth to talk. His voice is much different (lower) than hers. They won't keep their collars on, so we gave up on that and we just wait for their voices to signal which is which.

This isn't a good shot, but you see that Qtip on the floor? Juice considers his job to be to kill all Qtips found anywhere in the house. (Of course, we do not leave them around....he collects them out of the box on the counter (or, OK, from the floor in the girls' bathroom), and then carries them around like a trophy. It's the only exercise he gets. We have to do a check around the house before bedtime, because Nocturnal Qtip Hunting is his favorite sport.

Miri's New Laptop

Chris found Miri sitting at a make-shift table, and she was "typing" on what appeared to be a piece of cardboard.

Upon closer view, this is what she had done...

She made a screen and a keyboard!
